National Service Scheme (NSS) Report for St. Joseph College of Teacher Education for Women, Ernakulam (Unit Code: 247) – 2022-2023
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a government-sponsored program aimed at inculcating the spirit of social service and community development among young students. St. Joseph College of Teacher Education for Women, Ernakulam, established its NSS unit in the year 2022 with a total of 50 dedicated members. The unit, identified by the code 247, embarked on various activities throughout the academic year to contribute to the betterment of society.
The NSS unit at St. Joseph College of Teacher Education for Women, Ernakulam, has been working with the following objectives in mind:
To engage students in community service to create a sense of social responsibility and empathy.
To develop the leadership qualities and organizational skills of student volunteers.
To undertake projects for community development and welfare.

a. Cleanliness and Sanitation Drive:
The NSS members organized regular cleanliness drives in the college campus and surrounding areas to promote the importance of a clean and hygienic environment.
b. Awareness Campaigns:
Various awareness campaigns were conducted on topics such as environmental conservation, road safety, health and hygiene, and the importance of education.
c. Blood Donation Camp:
A blood donation camp was organized in collaboration with a reputed blood bank, encouraging students and faculty members to donate blood and save lives.
d. Literacy Program:
The NSS unit initiated a literacy program to provide basic education to underprivileged children in nearby communities.
e. Tree Plantation:
In an effort to promote environmental sustainability, the NSS members actively participated in tree plantation drives, aiming to increase green cover in the college campus and surrounding areas.
f. Health Check-up Camps:
Health check-up camps were organized in association with local healthcare centers to provide free medical check-ups and consultations to the economically disadvantaged.
g. Community Outreach:
The NSS unit regularly visited nearby orphanages, old-age homes, and rehabilitation centers to spend time with the residents and provide essential items as per their needs.
